An odyssey to complete every country in Africa

With my  family and team, we’ve been privileged to have completed a number of  successful humanitarian expeditions to all but five of the 47 countries that  make up the continent of Mama Africa.
“Now the challenge is to make  adventure and malaria prevention history by completing the entire  continent.
“The odyssey is grandly called ‘All Afrika’ – but what it really  gives us, is the opportunity in our lifetime to embrace and connect with every  country in Mama Africa.
“Let’s see what the Zen of Travel has got in store  for us - Life’s a great adventure, isn’t it –
Cheers,  Kingsley”

Having just reached country number 46 out  of 47, it’s time for Kingsley to hand over the expedition Land Rover to his  son Ross, who will lead the All Afrika Return Dash team from the hot, wet  capital city of Bangui in the Central African Republic before heading off to  explore Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso and Ghana.

Whilst in  Bangui, which is rated as the second most dangerous city in the world after  Baghdad, the Holgate team (Kingsley, Mashozi and Ross) will meet up with a  group of conservationists working with the Jane Goodall Institute SA and  assist in the rescue and relocation of four chimpanzees back to Chimpanzee  Eden Sanctuary in Nelspruit, South Africa. Continuing with Kingsley Holgate’s  Saving and Improving Lives Through Adventure campaign the team will also  distribute much needed life saving mosquito nets to pregnant mothers and to  children under the age of five.

Once the Chimpanzees have been  rescued, Kingsley and his wife Mashozi will move on to their last country on  the African continent, Equatorial Guinea. Ross’ Return Dash team will retrace  the countries traversed by Kingsley and so enable the Holgate family to  complete Africa in its entirety, so making adventure and malaria prevention  history.  – To hang up their boots – NEVER!

4The objectives of the ALL AFRIKA EXPEDITION are as follows:
  • As part of the energy that surrounded the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the geographic objective of The ALL AFRIKA EXPEDITION is to now complete the remaining five countries of Equatorial Guinea, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad and the Central African Republic, all before the end of 2010.
  • In keeping with the ongoing theme of using supported adventures to improve lives, The ALL AFRIKA EXPEDITION will continue to promote malaria prevention awareness through the United Against Malaria partnership.
  • The ALL AFRIKA EXPEDITION will carry a Scroll of Peace and Goodwill and will continue to promote goodwill, tourism and conservation links between South Africa and the countries visited.

Route and details:

It is planned that the ALL AFRIKA EXPEDITION media send-off will take place from Ghana’s vibrant capital of Accra, situated on West Africa’s coastline in the Gulf of Guinea. From Accra the team will cross the Ashanti region, Ghana’s traditional and cultural heartland to visit the Ashanti capital of Kumasi. Heading North, the expedition will traverse the regions of Brong-Ahafo, Northern and Upper West, to include the regional capitals of Sunyani, Tamale and Wa, and then cross to Burkina Faso’s capital city of Ouagadougou.

The expedition across Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad will take in the ancient empires of the Sahel region, the great Sahara Desert trade routes, the Niger River, historic Lake Chad and fascinating tribes such as the nomadic Tauregs, the Hausa, Zarma, Gobir and Fulani. The next ALL AFRIKA EXPEDITION challenge will be the Central African Republic, a land-locked nation that is bordered by the countries of Chad, Cameroon, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo.

The ALL AFRIKA EXPEDITION is saving one of the best till last. Whilst in Equatorial Guinea, the Holgates plan to visit the capital of Malabo on Bioko Island and mainland Rio Muni, to include the port town of Bata, the Monte Alen National Park, and the beautiful island of Corriso, before flying back home to South Africa – To hang up his boots – NEVER!
